The Treasure Has Been Found!

Wow, we are thrilled to announce that two lucky Wyze users found the Golden Wyze Cam. The finale couldn’t have been more epic. Our winners, Sterling and Breanne, ended up dialing in the exact location by driving around in an ice cream truck...

THANK YOU to everyone who participated. We had an absolute blast. We’re already planning our next one which is going to be way better because it will include all the stuff we learned from this one.

See the answer key below.

The Answer Key

Here’s what you all came for, the answer key.

First, WHERE WAS THE GOLDEN WYZE CAM?

The Golden Wyze Cam was on Vashon Island, near Frog Holler Forest.

How could you have figured that out?

Well, first audio and visual cues. We anticipated people using airplanes since we studied the Shia Labeouf thing. We purposely didn’t show much sky so that you couldn’t SEE the airplanes. What we didn’t anticipate is how well you all would dial in on the location just by HEARING the airplanes. We were pretty blown away by that. Even still. Vashon island is 37 square miles, so, much like golf, the short game is just as hard as the long game.

To nail the exact location you would have needed to solve some of the riddles and used those answers in connection with some of the visual audio clues. We released 5 clues (we were planning 7, but treasure was found before the 6th clue was released). Each clue was a math problem that solved for one DDM coordinate. The 7th explained what order to put them in.

Here are the clues, and their explanations.

The Intro

This isn’t a clue, this is just a nice intro. Isn’t it nice and piratey? However if you solved it early when we posted it weeks ago you would have had the cipher figured out for future clues. Each day the riddles were released in code. The word you needed to crack the cipher is “FRIENDS.” If you wrote this word followed by all remaining letters in alphabetical order, then you were able to transcode the secret messages. but there are a number of online solvers like Braingle that made it easy.

Decoded Clue #1

So let’s think about Wyze. What we’re founded on first,

In need and indeed, and fair weather’s the worst.

All its seasons, and cities, and 2x low places.

When it’s found you’ve got something that nothing replaces.

*note: We modified this riddle from the coded version to make it easier to solve.

Clue #1 Answer

Wyze is founded on “Being friends with users.” We talk about this all the time, but it can also be found on our about page, which we hinted at with the sign in the livestream.

A friend in need is a friend indeed.

A fair-weathered friend is the worst.

The third line was what truly mattered. This line is pointing to some cultural references.

Seasons, cities, and low places.

Seasons is talking about seasons of friends. There are 10 seasons of friends. We hinted at this in the livestream with a poster of the TV show.

There are 4 cities in the US called Friend, which we hinted at with the poster of the cities.

The song “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks says Friends 9 times, when doubled is 18. We had a Garth Brooks record in the livestream at the end.

You must add these together to get 32.

Decoded Clue #2

Now onto the second, and the aim to impress:

No one’s good and true version of a sure lock’s address.

Noble characters and their words form half of your action

Then those of the word that’s a fact by subtraction.

Clue #2 Answer

This is just talking about our second foundational value, "Too Good To Be True," our never-ending desire to blow people's minds every time they open a Wyze box, because the value of the product is so much more than the price they paid for it.

A lot of people got hung up on the Sherlock line, understandably. We threw this in there because initially we thought that this clue would be really easy and we wanted to add something to make it more complex (we were wrong). Sherlock's address is 221B Baker Street. "No One's Good and True Version" of that would be 2 Good 2 B True. But again, if you already knew what our second value was from line 1, you didn't really need this. We sent out several hints following this clue that the Sherlock line was not important, after realizing this clue was harder than we anticpated.

Too good to be true has 15 letters and 5 words. Together that is 20. Double it is 40. Then you subtract the number of letters in true, because something that is true is a fact.

20 x 2 is 40. Subtract 4 to get 36.

We want to shout out Aoth in the YouTube chat who solved the Sherlock thing perfectly, but nobody listened to him haha.

Decoded Clue #3

We love all our users, the whole conversation,

So go where they gather and see its creation.

Strange things may arise, like words from the dust

All mingled in one for a line you can trust.

Clue #3 Answer

Clue 3 was huge because most everyone knew it was on Vashon Island from the sound and visual clues. Solving Clue #3 would have give you one of the direct lines through vashon where you could have matched it up with a house or address to find the treasure.

On our website banner we have a tab called “Community” where you can see all the places our users hang out. You will find 4 Wyze communities, The Wyze Forum, Reddit, Discord, and Facebook. If you visited those communities you might come across a user named “DustyScuz” with dust as a profile picture and making strange comments. He was mostly just saying “word” but also making comments that are song lyrics like "Another one bites the dust" and "Dust in the wind." In each community, if you go to this user’s history you’ll see one comment that has a number in it.

Reddit:” Friday the 13th”

Forum: “2 funny lol.”

Discord: “Been waiting 4 ever to join! Hi everyone!”

Facebook: “10 seconds to print an octopus!”

All together these 4 numbers add up to 29

Shoutout to skyorrichegg for being the first to solve this!

Decoded Clue #4

From a few curious souls, those early bird heroes,

Came, soon enough, a month of six zeroes.

Take that one’s digit, its year’s final two,

Join them in one for a line that’s true.

Clue #4 Answer

This clue is a bit tougher, but again, another curcial cooridinate that together with #3 would have basically given you the answer.

We hit one million users, or “early bird heroes” in March 2019. We had a big million user party that all users were invited to, so many likely still have invites or saw our videos about the event, though the party was in April, a week or two after the party, which would have made this pretty hard.

Another possible way to solve is to use the Wayback machine and find various times on our web history where we’ve had our timeline laid out.

https://web.archive.org/web/20201202084045/https://wyze.com/wyze-history

March of 2019 gives you  03 + 19 which is 22

Decoded Clue #5

Find your next number, on the darkest of nights,

When you count up each glint in the longest of lights.

Then divide by the number right after the V

On the latest and best of our cam trilogy

And then you remove, so you pass this next test,

Every northwestern bar in the wisest crest.

Clue #5 Answer

This one was pretty easy, and actually not as helpful because most people already knew the general area where the treasure was found.

The darkest of nights is not helpful, just a setup and to know it's at night, which is why the next line says "start with."

The longest of lights is a Wyze Light Strip (or Pro, they are the same length.) Each light has 150 "glints."

The number after the V is 3, as in Wyze Cam v3 or Wyze Cam V3 pro.

The Wisest Crest is the Wyze logo. There are three lines pointing northwest.

150 / 3 -3 is 47.

Find the safe & enter the code.

The code for the safe, before it pays

Those two numerals for the most special of days

If you shout to the hills at the top of your lungs

The day then the day not spoken by tongues

The code save was 2424

The most special of days is Wyze Day, our birthday, October 24. If you shout this to the hills then you would hear an echo. So the code was 2424

It's all in the riddle...

[Code for the safe]

The code for the safe, before it pays

Those two numerals for the most special of days

If you shout to the hills at the top of your lungs

The day then the day not spoken by tongues

[The Location]

So let’s think about Wyze. What we’re founded on first,

In need and indeed, and fair weather’s the worst.

All its seasons, and cities, and twice in low places.

When it’s found you’ve got something that nothing replaces.

Now onto the second, and the aim to impress:

Noble characters and their words form half of your action

The hunt is over, we will never get the final section of the riddle :( but this is all that was needed!
