Wyze & EcoCart Carbon Offset Program

Carbon offsets are a practical and effective way to reduce the effects of climate change. Wyze is proud to partner with EcoCart to defend and preserve our planet.

What is EcoCart?

Our friends at EcoCart are rad. They scour the globe for projects that are legitimately reducing carbon pollution and build partnerships to reduce and offset carbon emissions. Each project is triple-verified to maximize positive impacts on the planet and local communities. You get to see the carbon offset impact of your order in real-time when you order on wyze.com.

Our project

Wyze HQ is Kirkland, WA, so we obviously want to support the PNW heartland. We chose Great Bear Rainforest. Okay, it's technically in British Columbia, Canada, but it's the closest we could get! The Great Bear Rainforest project utilizes improved forest management practices to balance timber harvesting with the overall health of the forest. It also protects coastal and marine environments home to many threatened species and reduces 1,000,000 tons of Co2 each year.

Make your Wyze order carbon neutral

Offset your Wyze order's carbon footprint with the flip of a switch–it's that easy. Make yours a home ecosystem preserving PNW ecosystems & more.

Carbon offsets reduce the effects of climate change by funding renewable energy, forestry, or clean water projects. To activate it, toggle the EcoCart Carbon Neutral Offset Switch in the lower right-hand corner of your shopping cart. EcoCart calculates the emissions created from your online orders and donates the exact dollar amount to reduce those emissions directly to our PNW project on your behalf.

Carbon Offset Program FAQs

What on Earth is a carbon offset?

Carbon offsets are a practical and effective way to reduce the effects of climate change by funding renewable energy, forestry, or clean water projects. These projects reduce emissions of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gasses in order to compensate for emissions made elsewhere, like the emissions created from ordering something online. EcoCart calculates the emissions created from your online orders and donates the exact dollar amount required to reduce those emissions directly to these projects on your behalf.

How does a carbon offset project work?

When you buy an offset, you fund projects that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions like protecting forests or building wind farms. Carbon offsets let you pay to reduce the global GHG total instead of making radical or impossible reductions of your own.

But not all carbon offset projects are created equal. EcoCart's projects offer carbon offset laboratory and field testing with third-party verification and site visits to ensure successful calculation of greenhouse gas reductions and enable a project to periodically issue credits. These credits are measured in metric tons (tonnes) of carbon dioxide equivalents (mtCO₂e). EcoCart then evaluates the implementation of the methodology and confirms that the project uses the majority of the proceeds from carbon for growth and not profit.

How do I make my Wyze order Carbon Neutral?

Add it to the cart! Before placing your order, toggle the EcoCart Carbon Neutral Offset Switch in the lower right-hand corner (just below Order Now). Toggling this switch to “On” will automatically add a new item to your cart. This item isn’t a physical one, but it’ll present itself with the Carbon Neutral Offset badge to indicate just how much carbon you’ll be offsetting, based on the estimated carbon weight of your order.

Does Wyze make any money from the EcoCart Carbon Neutral Offset Program?

No way, not a cent.

How do I know the money is going to the right place?

With your help, we’re finding projects that are truly additive (meaning new), permanent, and without unintended consequences (i.e. creating more carbon elsewhere, like a game of Whack-a-Mole). All of our projects are independently certified to internationally recognized standards.

Every project we fund is triple-verified. Triple-verification means:

  1. The project’s financials, management team, project site, and carbon reduction method are carefully vetted.
  2. One of the world’s major carbon standards reviews the project.
  3. Global Offset Research verifies the project against a second list of international standards.

Are carbon offsets the best way to slow climate change?

The best way to slow climate change is to not release carbon emissions in the first place. There are many ways to reduce your carbon footprint, but it's impossible to eliminate it completely. For reducing climate impact that can't be eliminated, high-quality carbon offsets are the most credible and impactful tool.
